Create a Restaurant Bill With Tips

Note: Tips are not taxable.

You can claim half the taxes on meals and entertainment expenses. GEM-CAR already includes this functionality within the chart of accounts.

That is, if you enter a meals and entertainment transaction, it will automatically split the taxes in half on the transaction. The taxable percentage tells GEM-CAR to divide the taxes at 50% to help you build your transaction. It will not split the taxes in half when posting the transaction to the general ledger. For example, if the GST on the invoice is $12.90, GEM-CAR will suggest $6.45.

In other words, if you manually enter $12.90 in the transaction, GEM-CAR will post that same amount to the general ledger. Click on Accounting > Chart of Accounts > +Add

In the Information tab, enter the following details:

  • Internal Code
  • Name
  • Financial

Check the following boxes:

  • This account is used for payments/receipts
  • This account is taxable
  • Prompt to generate pre-authorized payments upon payment

Click on Save.

We also suggest having a non-taxable expense account for tips.

This will generate a final transaction like the following:
